Engineer Gbola Sobande

CHAIRMAN

is an Engineering, Project Management and Business Development professional who spent 31 years (1978-2009) with Shell Nigeria (including a 3 ½ years stint in Shell UK Expro) in roles encompassing Engineering, Project Management, Human Resources, External Affairs-in-Projects and Finance.

He held senior management roles at Shell Nigeria which included Finance JV & PSC Liaison General Manager which required driving the PSC cost-recovery process as well as JV funding operations, and handling Partner and NAPIMS audits; 8 years on Nigeria’s first major deepwater project, the $3.6 billion Bonga Project assuming successive responsibilities for Venture Interface and Project Controls, to Cost Certification Manager from 2005 (combined from 2008 with the Finance JV & PSC role).

He headed the $1.2 billion EA Project External Affairs and HR between 2001 – 2003, at a time when the project was experiencing difficult external affairs and HR issues. This project was eventually delivered as a quality product on schedule and within budget, with successful engagement of coastal communities.

Upon retiring from Shell Nigeria in November 2009, working with business associates, was engaged in providing business development and engineering consultancy services as well as advanced project management training; as at July 2012, 109 NNPC and 40 DPR staff. In addition, he partnered in providing project management assurance services for one of Nigeria’s most successful marginal field operators.

He joined GE in August 2012 as Strategic Account Executive responsible for growing GE business with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and retired in August 2017.

• University of Southampton, UK:          BSc Mechanical Engineering (Honours) 2^ndClass Upper Degree & Shell Scholar.
